Primal follows Jennifer Tate, a modern-day girl who is ripped from her normal life of being a student and dating a rock-and-roll singer and thrown into an epic battle with demon forces from an immortal world. Jen must explore the realms of this world to learn its secrets, solve its puzzles, and battle the demons in order to ultimately restore a balance between Order and Chaos.

Jen's journey takes her into a world called Oblivion where she discovers four demon realms. Two are aligned with Chaos and two with Order. The tenuous balance between the realms has been disturbed and it appears that only Jen and her ally, a gargoyle named Scree, can restore Oblivion to its rightful state. During her brutal trials in Oblivion, Jen confronts the secrets of her past where she discovers her ancestral demon blood. This allows her to mutate into any of the four demon races, granting her great strategic advantage in combat. But she must choose her mutations wisely, lest the realms of Chaos and Order remain unbalanced forever.
